Project Engineer

Position Overview

The role of a Project Engineer (PE) is to coordinate and manage the flow of information to assist the superintendent and project manager in the execution of the project’s work. Through training and project experience, Build Group/Pacific Structures’ Project Engineers will gain a complete and thorough understanding of all phases of work; setting the foundation for future leadership roles within the company.

Reporting Structure

The Project Engineer is the starting position for employees wanting to advance to Superintendent, Estimator, or Project Manager. During this time the Project Engineer is submersed in most aspects of the job, while working with at least one Project Manager and Site Superintendent.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture or a Construction Management Certificate from an accredited university
  • Applicable internships or field experience preferred
  • Computer literate. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge to an advanced aptitude of MS Office Suite, (Outlook, Project, Excel and Word), AutoCAD, CM Software

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Manages and coordinates project information flow
  • Maintains a safe work environment
  • Establishes and maintains job-site office organization
  • Reviews and tracks RFIs and submittals
  • Provides quantity takeoffs and weekly input for the Labor Distribution Report
  • Reviews test reports and coordinates all testing and inspections
  • Reviews and edits formwork design with Superintendents for efficient installation
  • Reads and understands construction plans and specifications
  • Prepares the details of work to be performed
  • Interprets and explains plans and contract terms to administrative staff, field crews, and clients
  • Ensures all plans, specs, and submittals are accurate with matching information
  • Studies job specifications to determine appropriate construction methods
  • Assists Project Managers with change management, issues letters, PCO, COR, and PCCO
  • Creates and tracks RFIs, updating plans and details for the field
  • Generates detailed and conceptual cost estimates and change orders
  • Tracks all change orders via delay, issue, and change order logs
  • Assists Superintendents with field management
  • Performs survey and field layout using surveying equipment and accurate details
  • Assists with weekly safety meetings and the implementation of the safety program
  • Assists with set ups, estimates, and coordinates logistics for running concrete pours
  • Updates project schedule in conjunction with the Project Manager and Superintendent
  • Monitors subcontractor performance and verifies quality of work
  • Tracks manpower compared to project budget
  • Performs value engineering and practicality of plans
  • Tracks formwork, tools, and equipment on-site

Skill/Ability

  • Understands and interprets schematics, blueprints, drawings, and technical manuals
  • Can layout, survey, schedule, and read drawings in order to apply construction sequence
  • Can interpret oral and written instructions and directions from supervisors
  • Proven ability to multi-task, change priorities, and handle stress to meet deadlines

Physical Abilities and Site Conditions

  • Requires the use of hands to finger, handle or objects, tools or controls, sit, talk, hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch or crawl
  • Are regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles
  • Regularly works on construction job-sites exposed to the outdoors in all types of weather conditions
  • Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
  • Must be willing to work long hours, evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Must be willing to work emergency or on-call duty on nights and weekends
