Accounting Manager

POSITION SUMMARY
The Accounting Manager is a hands-on role responsible for core accounting operations, accurate financial reporting, and month-end and year-end close activities. This role requires strong attention to detail, comfort resolving discrepancies, and the ability to manage day-to-day accounting tasks in a fast-paced, multi-entity, construction-focused environment. The position is on-site in our Walnut Creek office.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee and manage full-cycle Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, ensuring timely processing, accurate coding, and compliance with internal controls.
  • Support AP/AR close activities, including accruals and reconciliations.
  • Lead monthly and annual close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data for management review and reporting.
  • Reconcile job cost accounts and ensure proper posting to the general ledger.
  • Assist with Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and over/under billing reconciliations.
  • Analyze gross margin fluctuations and provide explanations to management.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for internal and external audits.
  • Prepare and submit sales and use tax filings across multiple states.
  • Assist with tax-related needs related to construction projects.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, U.S. GAAP, and construction accounting standards, including revenue recognition.
  • Partner with project managers, superintendents, and operations teams to support accurate cost tracking and financial transparency.
  • Identify and support improvements to accounting processes, systems, and internal controls as the business scales.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support management decision-making.
  • Perform ad hoc accounting tasks and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Accounting, Finance, or related field strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, including experience in the construction industry.
  • Senior-level experience managing both Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP with hands-on experience in construction accounting, including WIP and revenue recognition.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with financial and operational teams.
  • Organized, self-directed, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, start-up-like environment.
  • Experience with accounting and construction systems (e.g., Sage, Procore, Salesforce, Oracle Textura, Plexxis) preferred.
  • Experience supporting multi-entity and multi-state operations preferred.
  • Working knowledge of payroll practices preferred.
