College of San Mateo – B3 Theater Repair and Replacement

College of San Mateo – B3 Theater Repair and Replacement is a 21,498-square-foot higher education performing arts renovation project completed on the College of San Mateo campus. The project modernized critical theater infrastructure and production systems to improve safety, performance capabilities, and long-term functionality within the existing facility.

The renovation included replacement and upgrade of key theatrical systems, including new production rigging, code-compliant fire curtains, production lighting systems, and structural anchorage improvements for lighting and audiovisual equipment. These upgrades enhanced the theater’s operational capabilities while bringing critical life-safety and performance systems into compliance with current standards.

Additional scope included conversion of two former tank storage rooms located along an adjacent corridor into functional storage spaces equipped with freestanding rack systems to better support theater operations and equipment management. Careful coordination was required to integrate new infrastructure within the existing building while maintaining ongoing campus activities and minimizing disruption to surrounding operations.

Delivered within an occupied educational environment and constructed in accordance with DSA requirements, the completed project provides a modernized performing arts venue that supports theatrical productions, educational programming, and campus events while improving safety, reliability, and operational flexibility.
